Xiaomi QLED 4K TV launch on 16 December

Xiaomi QLED 4K TV to be launch by Xiaomi on December 16 [हिंदी में]

To be fully ‘make in India’ 55-inch QLED TV.

Mi Smart TVs are some of the top-selling TVs in India with a 22 percent market share in Q2 this year

Currently, the major players in the premium TV segment are LG, Samsung and Sony with each offering their QLED TVs at a premium price tag.

With this, Xiaomi will go up against brands such as Samsung, TCL, and OnePlus, which have QLED models available in India, notably the TCL 55C715 QLED TV which is priced at Rs. 55,990. However, Xiaomi's typical approach to pricing means that it could offer its first QLED models at a much more affordable price than the competition.

Mi TVs are powered by Patchwall technology, an operating system that is designed specifically for Indian consumers.

Xiaomi touts PatchWall to be India’s most comprehensive content platform on TVs with deep integration of over 23 content partners including Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar and more content from over 16 languages and with over 30 other unique features.

“We have seen that the aspirations of the consumers are ever-changing. With the launch of new QLED TV, we are focusing on the improvement of the momentum of this segment as well as increase its adaptation rate,” Eshwar Nilakantan, Category Lead, Smart TV, Mi India, told IANS.

It could be Mi TV 5 Pro

The Mi TV 5 Pro was launched in China in November 2019. The TV is available in sizes of 55 inches, 65 inches, and 75 inches, with all size options having Ultra-HD (3840x2160-pixel) QLED screens. The Mi TV 5 Pro retails at CNY 3,699 (approximately Rs. 41,700) onwards.

In India, the Mi TV 5 Pro could retail at Rs. 49,999 for the 55-inch variant, to gain a price advantage over the competition. There is also likely to be HDR support on the TV, and models launched in India could run on Android TV with the addition of the PatchWall launcher.

The Mi QLED TV also has support for dual-band Wi-Fi and this is important as 5GHz offers a better experience when streaming 4K video. Speaking of 4K, the supports the UHD resolution along with support for HDR 10+, and Dolby Vision. HDR 10+ is a step above HDR 10 as unlike HDR 10 which supports static metadata data for HDR content, HDR 10+ is a lot like Dolby Vision supporting Dynamic metadata.

What will be interesting to see is whether the TV brings with it any dimming zones and what peak brightness it can achieve.
