व्हाट्सएप को छोड़कर लोग इस मैसेजिंग ऐप का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं, जानिए कौनसा?

एलोन मस्क के ट्वीट "सिग्नल का उपयोग करें" के परिणामस्वरूप गोपनीयता केंद्रित मैसेजिंग ऐप सिग्नल (Signal) के लिए भारी संख्या में नए उपयोगकर्ताओं का पंजीकरण हुआ। उनके इस ट्वीट को कई बार रीट्वीट और लाइक किया गया। एलोन मस्क ट्वीट स्पष्ट रूप से इंगित करता है कि व्हाट्सएप ग्राहकों को सिग्नल पर स्विच करना चाहिए।  [In English]

व्हाट्सएप के अपडेट के बाद व्हाट्सएप की सूचना फेसबुक पर साझा करने को लेकर इंटरनेट पर काफी चर्चा हो रही थी।

व्हाट्सएप ने हाल ही में अपनी गोपनीयता नीति में बदलाव किया है, जिससे पता चलता है कि अब अधिक डेटा अपनी मूल कंपनी फेसबुक के साथ साझा किया जाएगा जिसने पिछले वर्षों में कई सुरक्षा मुद्दों का सामना किया है। मार्क जुकरबर्ग के स्वामित्व वाले इंस्टेंट मैसेजिंग व्हाट्सएप ने अपने उपयोगकर्ताओं को इन परिवर्तनों के बारे में सूचित किया। व्हाट्सएप द्वारा लाए गए इस नए बदलाव के खिलाफ कई लोगों ने आवाज उठाई है। दूसरी ओर, व्हाट्सएप ने अपने उपयोगकर्ताओं को 8 फरवरी 2021 तक नीति को स्वीकार करने के लिए स्पष्ट रूप से सूचित किया (ध्यान दें: यह तिथि परिवर्तन के अधीन हो सकती है) अन्यथा उनके खाते को हटाना होगा।

उपयोगकर्ता की जानकारी संग्रहीत करने के लिए इसकी गोपनीयता नीति स्पष्ट रूप से संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में स्थित फेसबुक सहित वैश्विक डेटा केंद्रों के उपयोग को इंगित करती है। इसमें आगे कहा गया है कि कुछ मामलों में डेटा को अमेरिका या कुछ अन्य भागों में स्थानांतरित किया जा सकता है जो वैश्विक सेवाओं को उनकी शर्तों के अनुसार प्रदान करने के लिए आवश्यक हैं।

स्थिति सूचना

व्हाट्सएप आपके उपकरणों से सटीक स्थान की जानकारी एकत्र करेगा और उसका उपयोग करेगा।

फेसबुक अपने उपयोगकर्ता के सामान्य स्थान का विवरण एकत्र करेगा जैसे क्षेत्र कोड, फोन नंबर, भले ही उपयोगकर्ता अपना स्थान सुविधा बंद कर दे।

भुगतान डेटा

व्हाट्सएप का उल्लेख है कि यदि उपयोगकर्ता अपनी भुगतान सेवाओं का उपयोग करते हैं तो वे आपके बारे में अतिरिक्त जानकारी प्राप्त करेंगे, जिसमें भुगतान खाता विवरण और लेनदेन की जानकारी शामिल है। हालांकि, भारत में व्हाट्सएप पेमेंट सर्विसेज की अपनी अलग और समर्पित गोपनीयता नीति है।

सिग्नल की टैगलाइन "Say Hello to Privacy" है और यह ज्यादातर व्हाट्सएप द्वारा दी जाने वाली सुविधाओं के समान है। यह व्हाट्सएप की तरह ही एंड-टू-एंड एनक्रिप्टेड है। यह व्हाट्सएप के सह-संस्थापक ब्रायन एक्टन और मारलिंसेपिक द्वारा बनाया गया था। श्री ब्रायन ने वर्ष 2017 में व्हाट्सएप छोड़ दिया और सिग्नल के निर्माण के लिए वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान की।

रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, सिग्नल में सत्यापन प्रक्रिया में देरी होने के कारण इसके साइनअप में अचानक वृद्धि हुई थी। ऐप ने गुरुवार को ट्वीट किया, "हम इसे जल्द से जल्द हल करने के लिए वाहकों के साथ काम कर रहे हैं। इसमें रुको।" उन्होंने इस मुद्दे को हल किया और ऐप अब अच्छा कर रहा है।

After the updates from WhatsApp, a lot of discussion was going on the internet regarding the information of WhatsApp to be shared by Facebook.

WhatsApp recently changed its privacy policy which shows that now more data will be shared with its parent company Facebook which has faced many security issues in the last years. Mark Zuckerberg-owned instant messaging WhatsApp informed its massive number of users regarding these changes. Many people has raised voice against this new changes brought by WhatsApp. On the other hand, WhatsApp clearly informed its users to accept the policy till 8 February 2021 (note: this date may be subject to change) else theirs account would have to be deleted.

WhatsApp privacy policy covers the following main points:-

Hardware information

Privacy policy mentions that it is fetching information related to your device such as IP address, language and time zone, battery level, app version, browser details, mobile network information, phone number, mobile operator, ISP.

Data location

Its privacy policy clearly indicates the use of Facebook’s global data centers including those based in United States of America to store user information. It further states that the data in some cases may be transferred to the America or some other parts which are necessary to provide the global services as mentioned in their terms.

Location Information

WhatsApp will gather and use exact location information from your devices.

Facebook will collect details of general location of its user such as area code, phone number even if the user turns off their location feature.

Payments Data

WhatsApp mentions that if the users make use of their payments services they will fetch additional information about you, including payment account details and transaction information. However, WhatsApp Payments Services in India has its own separate and dedicated privacy policy.

The older edition of the privacy policy, used to begin with the below mentioned lines: ‘Respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA. Since we started WhatsApp, we’ve aspired to build our Services with a set of strong privacy principles in mind.’

Now, these lines are completely removed in the new version of privacy policy. Then also, WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption. Which means it can’t see your messages, or share it with anyone. But the new policy suggests an increasing dependency on other Facebook products.

Signal App is a messaging app which provides its users the facility of sending text messages, voice calls, audio calls, pictures and videos messages over a data connection or WiFi to other Signal users on iPhone, Android and Windows. It is more famous among journalists, security experts and researchers.

Signal’s tagline is ‘Say Hello to Privacy’ and it offers mostly same features as offered by WhatsApp. It is end-to-end encrypted just like WhatsApp. It was formed by WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton and Marlinspike. Mr. Brian left WhatsApp in the year 2017 and provided financial assistance for the creation of Signal.

As per the reports, verification process was delayed in the Signal due to the sudden growth in its signups. The app tweeted on Thursday  "We are working with carriers to resolve this as quickly as possible. Hang in there,". They resolved this issue and the app is doing well now.

Another interesting fact is that the recent Bloomberg Billionaires index reveals Elon Musk overtakes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s richest person.

As per my view, to some extent Signal can attract customers at this point of time but I don't think it's going to create any serious issue for World leading Messaging App WhatsApp.
