The Company Fights Back

1. British Reaction to the Uprising:

   • The Company decided to suppress the revolt strongly, bringing reinforcements from England and passing new laws to convict rebels.

2. Recapture of Delhi:

   • Delhi was retaken in September 1857. Bahadur Shah Zafar was tried, sentenced to life imprisonment, and sent to Rangoon with his wife, where he died in 1862.

3. Continued Resistance:
