Cropping Pattern in India

India's agriculture is shaped by its physical diversity and cultural variety, leading to different types of farming methods and cropping patterns. The country grows many kinds of food and fibre crops, vegetables, fruits, spices, etc.

• Hindi: भारत की कृषि इसकी भौतिक विविधता और सांस्कृतिक विविधता के अनुसार होती है, जिससे विभिन्न प्रकार की खेती और फसल पैटर्न बनते हैं। देश में कई प्रकार की खाद्य और रेशेदार फसलें, सब्जियाँ, फल, मसाले आदि उगाए जाते हैं।

Cropping Seasons in India

India has three main cropping seasons: Rabi, Kharif, and Zaid.

• Hindi: भारत में तीन मुख्य फसल मौसम होते हैं: रबी, खरीफ, और ज़ायद।

1. Rabi Season

• Time: Rabi crops are sown in winter (October to December) and harvested in summer (April to June).

  • Hindi: रबी फसलें सर्दियों में बोई जाती हैं (अक्टूबर से दिसंबर) और गर्मियों में काटी जाती हैं (अप्रैल से जून)।

• Important Crops: Wheat, barley, peas, gram, mustard.

  • Hindi: मुख्य फसलें: गेहूँ, जौ, मटर, चना, सरसों।

• Important States: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

• Reasons for Success: Precipitation during winter due to western cyclones and the Green Revolution.

2. Kharif Season

• Time: Kharif crops are sown at the start of the monsoon and harvested by September-October.

  • Hindi: खरीफ फसलें मानसून की शुरुआत में बोई जाती हैं और सितंबर-अक्टूबर तक काटी जाती हैं।

• Important Crops: Paddy (rice), maize, jowar, bajra, cotton, groundnut, jute, soyabean.
